But this time not because I wanted to. Some of you may have noticed my rather lengthy recent absence from the forum. Dead battery. Took a couple weeks to aquire a replacement, I don't like discount brand offerings.
This past Saturday, Lisa and i attended a benefit for the local volunteer fire station. On the way home in the truck to pick up something we forgot, I saw a sign that motorcycles were needed for their parade. I try to put in an appearance when possible, so when I got home, I loaded the Savage on the trailer, got all my gear and headed back up there (needed the truck on-site also, long story). I was pulling out the driveway (maybe three miles per hour), watching the mirrors, when i saw the trailer flex and pitch the bike out from under it's tie down ( a 12000 rated lb tractor trailer cargo strap). Got it back into the yard, unloaded, and didn't check it until Sunday. That 3mph crash dented the tank, broke my muffler loose from the tailpipe (remember, not stock), broke the tag frame reflector, bent the right fork tube, and loosened up the steering stem. The tank is almost fixed, but without the badges (which I liked on the 98 model). The steering stem isn't cracked, neither is the steering head section of the frame. Fork still tracks straight and the suspension cycles normally. Need to replace the fork seal, but needed that anyway. Never liked the reflector, but if someone has a spare, I'll reinstall one.
Hope y'all have better luck with your machines than I'm having right now. I'm still here, so if you need tech help, send me an e-mail.

Amazed at how little needs replaced considering what all got damaged.
